Tibetan Spanielの名前・名付け

Lion-inspired names like Simba, Leo, and Rajah honour their lion-mane appearance. Tibetan spiritual names like Karma, Bodhi, and Tashi connect to their monastic heritage. Sentinel names like Sentry and Scout reflect their watchdog role.

No — like the Tibetan Terrier, the name is a Western misnomer. Tibetan Spaniels are not related to sporting spaniels. They're an ancient Tibetan breed bred by monks as monastery watchdogs and prayer wheel turners.

Their lion-like mane (the long fur around their neck and chest) and flat face resemble the Chinese guardian lions often seen flanking Buddhist temples. Monks valued this resemblance to the Snow Lion of Tibet.

They sat atop monastery walls acting as lookouts, barking to alert the larger Tibetan Mastiffs below of approaching strangers. They also reportedly turned prayer wheels and served as bed warmers for monks.

Excellent — they're small (9-15 pounds), relatively quiet for a watchdog breed, and don't need extensive exercise. Their alert nature makes them great apartment watchdogs who bark purposefully, not constantly.

Very much so — they love high perches, are independently minded, groom themselves fastidiously, and can be aloof with strangers while devoted to their chosen people. Many owners describe them as 'more cat than dog.'

Tibetan Spaniels are a notably long-lived breed, typically reaching 12-15 years, with many living to 16 or beyond.

Moderately — they blow their undercoat seasonally (typically twice a year) but are relatively low-shedding the rest of the time. Regular brushing keeps the mane and feathering tangle-free.
