Brussels Griffons have enormous personalities in tiny bodies. They are confident, sassy, affectionate, and often comical. They bond intensely with their primary person (making them true 'velcro dogs'), are surprisingly brave for their size, and have remarkably expressive faces that seem almost human. They can be sensitive and prefer gentle handling.

Brussels Griffons are a toy breed, typically standing 7–10 inches at the shoulder and weighing 8–10 pounds. Despite their tiny size, they are sturdy and well-proportioned with a confident carriage that makes them appear larger than they are.

Rough-coated Brussels Griffons (Griffon Bruxellois) have a wiry, dense coat with distinctive facial furnishings including a beard and eyebrows. Smooth-coated Griffons (Petit Brabançon) have a short, glossy coat without facial hair. Both types come in the same colours and have identical temperaments.

Brussels Griffons are best suited to adults or families with older, gentle children. They bond intensely with one person and can be sensitive to rough handling. They are wonderful companions for those who appreciate their expressive, velcro-dog nature and can give them the attention they crave.

Brussels Griffons come in four colours: red (the most common, ranging from reddish-brown to auburn), belge (a mix of red-brown and black), black, and black and tan. Red rough-coated Griffons are the most iconic variety. Smooth-coated Griffons (Petit Brabançon) come in the same colours.

Brussels Griffons are generally healthy but can be prone to brachycephalic issues due to their flat faces, including breathing difficulties in extreme heat. Other concerns include eye problems (due to their prominent eyes), patellar luxation, and hip dysplasia. Working with a reputable breeder who health-tests is important.
