Treeing Walker Coonhound 강아지 이름

Treeing Walker names often celebrate their speed, competition heritage, and treeing ability. Popular picks include Walker, Ace, Champ, Dash, and Flash for males; Scout, Biscuit, Sadie, Clementine, and Magnolia for females. Nature-themed treeing names like Treetop, Oakley, Timber, and Cedar also suit them perfectly.

Tennessee Lead was a stolen foxhound of unknown origin who appeared in Tennessee in the 1850s. He was such an extraordinary hunter — fast, with a superb nose and explosive treeing instinct — that breeder John Walker crossed him with his Walker foxhounds, creating the foundation of the entire Treeing Walker Coonhound breed. Lead is considered the founding sire.

The 'treeing' refers to their specialised hunting technique — they chase raccoons until the raccoon climbs a tree to escape, then the hound 'trees' it by staying at the base and barking a distinctive 'chop' bark to alert the hunter. They'll stay at that tree for hours if needed, never leaving their quarry.

Excellent family dogs — they're one of the friendliest, most sociable coonhound breeds. They love people, are gentle with children, and get along well with other dogs. They need significant daily exercise and have a loud chop-bark, but indoors they're affectionate, goofy companions.

Treeing Walkers are the fastest of the coonhound breeds, capable of bursts up to 30+ mph. They inherited speed from their foxhound ancestry (and the legendary Tennessee Lead) and are built leaner and more athletic than other coonhounds. This speed advantage is what makes them dominant in nite hunt competitions.

Nite hunts are organised coonhound competitions held after dark where dogs are scored on their ability to find, trail, and tree raccoons. Points are awarded for striking (finding the scent), treeing, and accuracy. Treeing Walkers consistently dominate these events due to their speed, drive, and treeing ability.

The 'chop' bark is the Treeing Walker's distinctive treeing voice — a rapid, staccato, high-pitched bark that sounds completely different from their trailing bay. When a Walker trees game, they switch from a melodious trailing voice to this explosive, excited chopping sound. Experienced hunters can identify individual dogs by their chop.
