Yes — American Foxhounds are sweet, gentle, and wonderful with children. They're pack animals who love company. Absolutely. George Washington is considered the father of the American Foxhound. He kept meticulous records of his hound breeding program at Mount Vernon, crossing English hounds with French hounds gifted by the Marquis de Lafayette. He gave his dogs memorable names like Drunkard, Sweetlips, Truelove, and Vulcan.

Very loud — their melodious bay can carry for miles across open countryside, which is exactly what fox hunters needed. It's musical rather than sharp, but apartment dwellers and close neighbours should be prepared. This is a vocal breed that bays when excited, lonely, or on a scent.
