At eighty to a hundred and ten pounds it is also a large, unhurried, comprehensively drooling house dog — patient with children, mournful of expression, and completely immovable once its nose goes down. Trailing and detective names are the most natural fit, because no other breed does this job — Sleuth, Trace, Radar, Marshal and Marlowe all celebrate the nose rather than the wrinkles. Saint-Hubert heritage names reach back to the Belgian monastery where the breed was made: Hubert, Ardennes and Talbot carry real history rather than borrowed grandeur. Famous-hound names are the affectionate route — Trusty, Copper, Duke, Bruno and Ladybird are all Bloodhounds from film, television and the White House. Keep it short whichever way you go.
