Salukis are built for endurance at high speed over varied terrain, while Greyhounds are sprinters bred for short-distance racing. Temperamentally, Salukis are more aloof, independent, and cat-like, while Greyhounds tend to be more easygoing and sociable. Salukis are also one of the oldest breeds, predating Greyhounds by millennia.

Salukis are affectionate but on their own terms — they will seek your company, lean against you, and follow you from room to room, but they generally do not enjoy being held, hugged, or smothered.
